The Sports Massage Therapist

Sports massage can help a wide range of people who have musculoskeletal pain, dysfunction or injury brought about by work or lifestyle.

My career has always been linked to fitness, exercise and sport. I have a BSc degree in Sports and Human Biology and trained as a fitness instructor and lifestyle consultant with FFI. I later moved on to become a teacher of PE. In the last 2 years I have also completed my level 3 and then my level 4 in Sports Massage Therapy.

The prime purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. Sports massage can help a wide range of people not just athletes who have musculoskeletal pain, dysfunction or injury brought about by work or lifestyle. It tends to be deeper and more intense than Swedish massage and can include techniques such as stretching, compression, friction, and trigger point response techniques.

Rebalance Self Support Group

Positively challenging eating disorders…together

We meet on the second and fourth Fridays of each month at The CAN&WILL Studio, Northampton Road, Market Harbrorough, LE16 9HF, from 10am – 12pm for a minimum £2 donation per person, per session.

The rebalance self support group offers a friendly, welcoming environment, with sessions facilitated by experienced staff/volunteers, many of whom have recovered from an eating disorder themselves. Volunteers also include carers and mental health professionals, helping to provide a spectrum of advice and experience.

The first hour of each session is based on a subject that will aid recovery from any form of disordered eating. Topics encourage participants to consider and reflect upon their thoughts, feelings and behaviours and the actions that might help create a more balanced way of living. The second hour allows for peer support and chat, helping to minimise isolation whilst increasing understanding.
